There are different forms of arthritis with the most common being, osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease.) Osteoarthritis affects nearly 21 million people in the United States and accounts for 25 percent of visits to primary care physicians. It is estimated that 80 percent of the population will have radiographic evidence of osteoarthritis by age65.

Osteoarthritis is irreversible and typical treatment consists of medication or other interventions that can reduce the pain.
